The Silk Road has always been more than a trade route - it was a living bridge between East and West. Originating in the 15th century, it carried silk, spices, and stories across vast landscapes, connecting people and cultures through the magic of flavour.
Our own spice journey began in much the same way. Rooted in my family’s ancestral home in Gujarat, India, these treasured recipes travelled across continents, finding their way to the UK in the 1970s.
I started Silk Road Blends because I believe spices are more than just ingredients - they’re a way to connect people to flavour, culture, and well-being. Growing up inspired by the rich traditions of the Silk Road, I wanted to share how spices can transform everyday meals into something both delicious and nourishing. My motivation is simple: to help others experience
the joy and health benefits that come from cooking with spices.
Our signature Garam Masala is at the heart of this journey. Each blend tells its own story, shaped by regions and even households. Ours was born in Gujarat and passed down through generations, lovingly roasted and perfected by hand before being gifted to me and my sisters by our beloved mother. I remember her creativity in the kitchen - never letting food go to waste, always using her Garam Masala to turn even leftovers into something new and delicious.
As a child in Kenya, I’d watch her at the stone mill, grinding fresh spices and flour with care. That same dedication lives on in Silk Road Blends today. We source the finest ingredients - nutmeg and cloves from Zanzibar, cinnamon from India and Sri Lanka, chillies, cumin, and coriander from India - and freshly grind them to preserve their vibrant flavour.
